THE PROBLEM

According to UNISEF roughly 26% of the worlds populations menstruates monthly. Whether these people are using sanitary pads, tampons, menstrual cups, or alternatives they are messy business. Period. Taking up time, money, energy, water, laundry detergent and toilet paper.

THE BRIEF

Design a 3D digital product prototype accompanied by a digital user interface that solves an identified problem. The interface is used to navigate a product's user interface and control the device. The prototype must be rendered in Cinema4D, and the interface created in Sketch.

THE SOLUTION

To ensure a period without the mess MUD has been developed. Short for Menstrual Utility Device, this cup-shaped device can be put in at the start of your period and taken out only at the end. Ultimately, minimising the mess.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

MUD is intended for all people who menstruate.

With sensitive UV lights within the cup walls, it keeps the environment clean by killing harmful fungi and bacteria that grow in the vagina. The cup acts as a mechanical voluntary muscle for the uterus.

Through the smart ring you can ‘open’ and ‘close’ the cup to release its contents as one would release a wee.

The case is used to charge and store the cup and the ring holding all the user information and acting as the control hub.

CUP INSTRUCTIONS

Fold the cup in half.

Hold the cup in dominant hand.

Push it backwards and upwards inside the vagina.

Twist the cup slightly untill it pops back to its original shape.

RING INTERFACE

The ring has subtle symbols and vibrations that remind you that your period has started or ended and when to empty the cup.

Remove the ring from the case.

Place the ring on a finger of choice.

The ring will automatically activate.
